Rustic Wood Pieces Feature in Rosalie Gallery Exhibition “Enchanted”

(Lto R) Rose Schick, Bronwyn Holland (Gallery Director), exhibiting artist Sean Lloyd and Christine Ambrose at the Official Opening

Rosalie Gallery has officially opened Enchanted” an exhibition by Wood Artisan, Sean Lloyd. This unique collection includes beautifully crafted chairs and furniture pieces from wedding settings to unique kitchenalia. All pieces are crafted from local timbers, vines and tree branches.
I have tried to capture the beauty of nature using mainly tree branches and vines and turning them into rustic furniture,” said Sean.

I grew up working on farms and learnt that if you wanted something you made it yourself.” Sean spent some years on an outback cattle station and learnt leatherwork from his father, making saddles and harnesses in his spare time. He has served in the Australian Army within the Infantry in North Qld and has taught woodwork on a volunteer basis at St. Monica’s School Oakey.

He enjoys the challenge of one off” pieces and has recently established an agent for his work in Sydney. When Sean isn’t working on one of his wood pieces, he enjoys playing electric guitar from blues thru to Neo classical. He has a keen interest in motor bikes and is also a published author. He is currently working on a book of short stories.

Previous exhibitions have been held in Art Galleries incorporated in Toowoomba and in Miles. His rustic furniture is available for hire at weddings and general functions.

The exhibition concludes on Sunday 4th November. Rosalie Gallery is in Mocatta Street, Goombungee. Opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 10.30am to 3.30pm. For further information phone the Gallery on 4696 5600.

Prompt Response Saves Future Ergon Power Poles

A sustainable forestry plantation northeast of Toowoomba, designed to become a future source of power poles for Ergon Energy, narrowly escaped disaster when bushfires ripped through the region this week.

Sustainable Pole Farm Manager David Wood said the quick response to the fire when it threatened the 1300ha forest called Eagle Rock, near Ravensbourne, prevented future power poles worth millions of dollars from going up in smoke.
Mr Wood said the risk was quickly recognised when a fire was detected within a kilometre of the property on Sunday morning and his team began back-burning that afternoon.

Unfortunately, we could not completely contain the fire and lost about 88ha on the first night, but I am confident the trees in this section will bounce back. Their gallant efforts to grade containment lines and carry our back-burns long into the night and to bravely guard the property through the week almost certainly prevented a catastrophic loss of trees,” he said.

In total, the operation included 12.4km of back-burning in extremely challenging conditions, 15.8km of graded fire breaks and 1.6km of dozed breaks. Mr Wood doubts the property could have been saved without the preventative hazard reduction program over the past three years,  and a good network of fire trails.

By saying that violence is not an option, the Toowoomba community can maintain its reputation as a desirable place to live.
