As well we’ll have a table where you can bring along your previously loved handbag and bid for a bag in our secret auction.

To ensure a good time, the delightful Joy Mingay will MC the event and intriguing Grand Central Stylist Carolyn Taylor-Smith will be providing some hot fashion tips. Stud stock auctioneer Andrew Meara will be auctioning the gorgeous bags on offer!

Heritage Crow’s Nest Community Branch has presented a cheque for $17,820 to the Lions Club of Crow’s Nest Inc. for their history plaques project, Stage 2 of three stages to promote awareness of historical sites in Crow’s Nest village.

Stage 1, a map entitled “Crow’s Nest – More History Than You Think” was
published last year by the club,  financed by a Q150 grant from the
Queensland Government and completed with the invaluable help of the Crow’s Nest Historical Society. The map shows the locations of 60 sites of
historical interest.

A cast bronze plaque will be placed on footpaths at each of the 60 locations with information and in the instance of now vacant sites or major structural changes, an illustration of the history of that site. The plaques should last 100 years and will be constructed by Wagners Toowoomba.

Stage three will be the publication of a book of oral history, again
focussing on the 60 sites. A questionnaire will be sent to the public
outlining the club’s plans for obtaining oral history.

“We plan to interview older residents and former residents of Crow’s Nest and anyone else who is interested in passing on valuable information about the history of Crow’s Nest village,” said Club President Meg Hatfield.

Australia’s award winning country band The Howie Brothers are heading back to Toowoomba again for a performance of Morning Melodies” at the City Golf Club on Tuesday 10^th August 2010, with proceeds from their appearance to be donated to the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation through the ‘Give Me 5 For Kids’ campaign.

The Howie Brothers (twin brothers John & Graeme Howie) are one of Australia’s leading country music / easy listening acts.

John and Graeme have been performing and recording for over 30 years and are renowned for their distinctive vocal harmony sound. They play a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, accordion, mandolin, ukulele and drums.

The Howie Brothers have recorded more than 20 albums. Their music could accurately be described as being Australian country, with bluegrass, Irish/Scottish, easy listening, singalong type influences. Think Hawking Brothers, Slim Dusty, Foster & Allen, and Max Bygraves and that will give you some idea of what the Howies are about, musically.

They like to incorporate a few funny yarns into their shows. As John says, ‘Good music and a few laughs is a winning combination.’

Hi everyone! Barry Whisson here….on behalf of T.A.R.M.A.C. (Toowoomba Amateur Radio-controlled Model Aircraft Club) inviting you to come to a model-rocket launch day at the TARMAC field, on the New England Highway, only 10km south of Toowoomba and just past the “The Mill – The Outlook” (look for the wind-sock on your right) this Saturday 7th August from 1:45pm  through to 3:30pm.

There’s only four “Launch-days” per year, so here’s a good opportunity to come.  Bring a folding chair though..

There’s no charge.  There will be refreshments available

There are likely to be model rockets of various shapes and types, some with gliders attached and some without, and even  some rockets are  “2-stage”. . Most of them will have been made by boys of the Rangeville Space Pilots’ Club, (or their sisters) but some adults get in on the act too!

You know, there is something quite exciting about a rocket launch as you see the forty-or-so exquisitely-made rockets lined up there ready for launch – every single one of them lovingly crafted by these young people.(as well as by the more advanced modellers).

Then to see the high anticipation in the eyes as these  young rocketeers sit on the edge of their special launch-seat and get ready to launch their very own rocket …. finger poised just millimetres over the “Launch” button …  as the moment approaches and everyone joins in the count-down … ‘.five ….four … three .. .two …one ….“IGNITION !” … then they give the button a determined push …then you hear a “whoosh” as the rocket leaves the pad followed  by  cries of WOW…Look at that !“

I’ve got to say – if you haven’t ever been to a rocket launch, then you’ve missed something very special,  quite unique (especially in Australia) as  you witness these beautiful craft explode off the pad and, in a plume of smoke, soar upward, ever upward into the atmosphere  to maybe as high as 1000-feet (that’s 3000-feet with Toowoomba’s elevation!).

To see the look of both relief and deep satisfaction at the sense of accomplishment written all over the face of a young 8-year old rocketeer is really something to behold..

You’ve got to make it a ‘must‘ to come. Remember, 1:45 pm this Saturday 7th August…..a fun thing for all.

Toowoomba Hospice has sold over 170 tickets for Saturday 14^th August’s Race Day at Clifford Park.

Chairman of the Toowoomba Hospice Association Mr Graham Barron OAM said he was happy with the response so far to the 7th Annual Race Day. “We hope to sell another 50 – 100 tickets by the end of next Tuesday (10^th August) as we have to have catering numbers in by the close of business on that day”

This is one of the Hospices’ major fundraising/social events and will raise money to be used to assist the daily operations of this important community facility. Mr. Barron said the Hospice’s Mission is to provide free professional palliative care for all ages, based on mutual respect and trust for those who come to us and their families.
