Pet Reconnect for Flood Affected Owners

0

A dedicated WEBSITE  has been set up for all lost and found animals during the flood crisis which can be accessed by going to www.qldfloodanimals.weebly.com

So far we have 180 animals listed that have been directly affected by the Queensland Floods and the website has been accessed by over 3000 people in the last few days. It is the best chance for those trying to reunite with their animals.

Pet Reconnect.also has a FB page link at ….. http://www.facebook.com/pages/PET-Reconnect/133387260057638

We have had over 40 reuinions and are working closely with the RSPCA, The Qld Horse Council (who have us prominently on their front page) and are the govt sanctioned body for all horse issues – and Brisbane, Lockyer Valley/Ipswich and Rockhampton Councils who are all working closely with us.

The Website has up to date news on all flood issues related to animals and is linked to all relevant organisations, animal shelters, welfare groups etc.

We are continuing to write up lost and found posts from dozens of Facebook pages if people have not posted with us directly and have developed YOUTUBE videos (going to air this week) for all Lost and Founds on the website and have distributed 500+ flyers of the lost and found postings around the Brisbane/Ipswich Area.

Mystery Person in Toowoomba Flood Photo Safe

The photo  below was received by a local police officer from a member of the public overlooking the floods from the Grand Central Shopping Centre, looking on to Dent Street, Toowoomba on Monday, 10th January.

Fears were held for the safety of the person in the water but police would now like to advise the media and members of the public that the person was found safe and well. After extensive enquiries police have ascertained the teenage girl was rescued by a member of the public further downstream, and has requested she remain anonymous.

Eighteen people have died in the flash floods that swept through Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, mostly in or near  Grantham. Floodwaters near Ipswich have claimed the lives of a man and a four-year-old boy.

Grave fears are held by police for another missing 12 people, believed to be from two families in the Lockyer Valley.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Toowoomba Police as soon as possible on 46 316 333 or Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.

Crime Stoppers is a charitable community volunteer organisation working in partnership with the Queensland Police Service.

Help Grantham, Withcott & Murphy’s Creek People Find Possessions

0

Facebook pages were turning up saying they had found photo albums and so forth and they would like to give it back to the rightful owners.

Many possessions were swept from homes by flood waters and are now being found scattered over the countryside as waters recede

This site will help people communicate and be easy for people to locate. You may put in photos, descriptions and information on the area it was found.

http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_157097224341893&ap=1

Local members of the community will be helping as well to see if we can get precious items home.

A lot of people down here in the Lockyer Valley have nothing left. And the things they miss the most is their favourite stubby cooler, or their wedding photos. It doesn’t matter how small or big, list the item.

This site is designed for everyone to share and communicate. The only problem with this site is people need to know it is there for it to work (it’s worth a try).

Queenslanders Asked To Remember Flood Victims

Queenslanders are being asked to observe a minute’s silence at 2.33pm today (Monday, 17th January) exactly one week on from the devastating flash flooding that brought death and destruction to Toowoomba and the nearby Lockyer Valley area.

Scott Bucholz, the Federal MP for Wright whose electorate covers the Valley says “Wherever you are, please stop for a minute and remember those innocent people who lost their lives simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The death toll stands at 18, mostly from LockyerValley communities. Police say grave fears are held for 14 others who remain missing from the Toowoomba/Lockyer Valley area.

Support Grantham Flood Victims

Like many of those affected by the flood disaster, displaced Grantham resident Nury Barros simply could not sit idle listening to the loss of her neighbours.

Instead she has been hard at work establishing a disaster relief and rebuilding fund. ‘Grantham Flood Support’ started as a Facebook group, which by its second day had around 900 supporters.

A website was launched to accept donations and sell raffle tickets.

After just 30 minutes, nearly $500 has been banked.

After 24 hours, the total has reached $10,000

One of the fund’s mandates is that all proceeds raised are directed to Grantham and surrounding areas. Ms Barros says  “As a resident, I will be making sure every cent ends up in the Lockyer Valley helping flood victims.”

The Lockyer Valley Regional Council has thrown it’s weight behind the venture as an official supporter.

At the website, www.granthamfloodsupport.com visitors can assist in three different ways:

1) Donate products and services as raffle prizes

2) Buy raffle tickets ($5 each)

3) Make donations using credit card

“Little Grantham, a town of less than 1000 people, is counting more bodies than Brisbane. It really is the ‘ground zero’ of the flood disaster,” Ms Barros explains. “The town is completely gone and we’ll have to go through months of rebuilding just to have a ‘home’ again.”
