Top Up Your Vacancies at Top Job in Toowoomba 27th October

The Top Job recruitment evening is set to kick off again for its sixth year. Despite the challenges for many businesses across Australia, local employers are ensuring the future success of their operations by investing time to consider employing the young people of Toowoomba. Pro-active employers are coming along to Top Job to talk to young people about vacant positions within their company  to help these potential employees get a ‘kick start’ on their careers.

DISCO CEO Mike Paton said; Toowoomba and the region is fighting back against uncertainty and it’s is important for companies to look to their future and ensure the prosperity of their organisations,  by continuing to develop their workforce and attract entry level staff. Top Job is a great way for employers to meet motivated young people who are looking to begin their employment and career journey”.

Employment Assistance Officer at DISCO Andrew Spradbrow also commented; We would really love to break some records this year and have in place more than 220 vacancies,  and get at least 120 graduating students into jobs before Christmas. This would probably represent a local record ”. Remember this event is for vacancies commencing in late 2011 or early 2012 so young people can still have a break before commencing work”. Mr Spradbrow said.

This year’s event will be at the City Golf Club on the 27th of October from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. The event is open to young people under the age of 24. Registrations are currently being taken for both young people and employers who are wishing to attend.

The event is completely free so if you wish to take part please contact Andrew Spradbrow or Carissa Kennedy at DISCO on 4638 3088.

Steve Walters Saves the Night…..

Due to unforseen reasons Dawn Fraser who was to be guest speaker at the Toowoomba Hospices’ Charity Dinner can’t make it, however after a few agonising hours the organisers have confirmed Australian former professional rugby league footballer of the 1980s and 90s, Steve Walters has saved the night by jumping in and offering to be the after dinner guest speaker.

Promotions and Fundraising Manager Mr Mark Munro said when he was told about Dawn he was disappointed “I was so disappointed when I was informed Dawn was unable to attend the dinner,  but I must say Dawn was even more disappointed as she was really looking forward to coming back to Toowoomba for our Charity Dinner and supporting the Toowoomba Hospice”

It was the O’Neill family (who organised our charity golf day and dinner last year in memory of their mother June O’Neill who died at the Hospice late 2009) who was able to secure Steve Walters. “I am a true believer of the old saying ‘Its who you know not what you know’ especially in the fundraising profession” said Mr Munro

Toowoomba Hospice Chairman Mr Graham Barron said the Hospice is privileged to have Steve Walters stepping in for Dawn Fraser “Steve is a former professional rugby league footballer of the 1980s and 90s, who at the peak of his career, was considered the best hooker in the game. He was also an Australian Kangaroos and a Queensland Maroons representative which is fantastic, as I am a passionate Queenslander”

Steve Walters also he played in the Canberra Raiders’ 1st, 2nd and 3rd grand final victories. Steve is the eldest of the three Walters brothers, but was the last of them to gain Australian Test selection honours.

The Hospice hopes to raise $8,000 – $10,000 from the Golf Day that started at 11am this morning, followed by the dinner at 6.30pm for a 7pm start!

The Charity Dinner is at the City Gold Club in South Street, Toowoomba.
