Emergency Services and Safety (ES&S) Website

The ES&S site is part of the Q-Gov ‘single web’ experience. It is a ‘one stop shop’ for Queenslanders to access emergency and disaster-related information, including links to more popular, credible, trusted and well designed digital tools and websites. The site features useful tools, guides and tips to help Queenslanders better prepare, respond and recover when disasters occur.

Queensland communities have access to localised disaster management information via the website’s Community Intelligence Map. This map aims to improve situational awareness with ‘layers’ of local information including storm tide gauges, school locations, and SES groups. As the map continues to develop, additional layers will be added.

The site also provides easy options for individuals and businesses to offer help before, during and after a disaster. Using the Community Emergency Inventory resource, businesses can contribute equipment, supplies or services that may be needed.

The Emergency Services and Safety website was developed in co-operation with Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, Queensland State Emergency Services, Emergency Management Queensland and Smart Services Queensland.

Special Incentive For Toowoomba Women To Have a Breastscreen This Christmas

Every woman who attends BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Service for a breastscreen this December until Thursday 22nd December 2011 will have their name put into a draw to win a wonderful Christmas Hamper donated by the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.

BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Services Health Promotion Officer Jessica Hobbs said “Leading up to Christmas women are usually very busy and this is a positive way to ensure they remember their breastscreen. Our aim is to increase breastscreen awareness and in turn increase the number of women having a free breastscreen every two years.”

The Foundation have put together a wonderful Christmas hamper filled with loads of Christmas fare and goodies which will make one of our clients very happy,” Ms Hobbs said.

One in eight Queensland women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life. A breastscreen every two years is strongly recommended for women aged 50-69 years as 70% of breast cancer occurs in this age group,” she said. However we do encourage all women over the age of 40 and 70 years to have a free breastscreen.”

BreastScreen Queensland is located at Toowoomba Hospital and offers FREE breastscreening Monday to Friday with after hour’s appointments available on selected days. Phone 13 20 50 now to book your FREE breastscreen.

Toowoomba Walk Against Violence December 15th

Next Thursday 15th December is the day that Toowoomba citizens, friends, workmates and perfect strangers stand up and walk together to show the world that we care about our city and its future. The Walk Against Violence is happening at 11am, going along Margaret and Ruthven Streets and finishing on the steps of City Hall.

We are assembling on the front lawn area of the Empire Theatre on Neil St, where there will be some T shirts available for walkers, first in best dressed. We will move out onto the street, walking to City Hall and hear from the Mayor, the Vice Chancellor of USQ and a student from Toowoomba State High School, Mt Lofty campus.

Following the short speeches there will be a Free Sausage sizzle available, food supplied by Rotary with cold drinks available for purchase.

This is our time to shine, show the nation and the world that Toowoomba is a city of substance.

See you there!
