Toowoomba Regional Radio Personality Krazy Kevin in World’s Greatest Shave on Thursday, March 15th

Krazy Kevin

Recently I interviewed Phoebe Mitchell from the Leukemia Foundation. During our chat she told me about the World’s Greatest Shave” where people raise funds for the Foundation by having their head shaved or hair coloured. I said can Krazy Kevin do it too?” She nearly fell off the chair, but she said Yes!

This will be the third time I have shaved my head for charity. The first was way back in the early 90’s when a football playing friend of mine had a brain tumor.   I had my hair shaved off on the centre spot of Cambridge United FC pitch at half time with 7,000 people looking on.  Buckets were sent around the crowd and we made enough money to send Peter and his wife on a lovely holiday.

Fast forward to Bahrain, when we put together the famous Hands across the Water” appeal which raised over 55,000 BD ($150,0o0) for the victims of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. During that campaign I had my head half shaved for 3 weeks, then fully shaved.

So onto the present day, and I am asking for anyone just to have a look at this link: http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/krazykevin and if you have any money to spare for a good cause, please pledge your donation… And don’t forget to come down to Gardentown in Toowoomba from 6pm on Thursday, 15th March to join in the fun.

Thanks,
Krazy Kevin

Artist in Winning Form in Toowoomba on Saturday, March 10

Charismatic Australian artist, Donald James Waters will visit Toowoomba in March to appear as a special guest at the annual ‘Tracking the Arts Race Day’. A long-standing and popular tutor at the University’s McGregor Schools, Donald is a passionate artist who sees art as an adventure to be experienced not only by the artist but also by the viewer.
Race Day guests will have a first-hand opportunity to share this love of the arts when Donald takes centre stage to paint a masterpiece throughout the course of the day. When speaking with Donald, you cannot help but be engulfed by his presence and by the beauty and vibrant colour of his larger-than life creations on canvas,” said Artsworx Manager, Dr Rebecca Scollen.
Don has an international reputation, having exhibited in both England and New Zealand and with paintings in gallery and private collections throughout the world including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Art Collection. He is also highly regarded as a tutor, motivational speaker, compere and judge. It will be a rare treat for people to actually watch him at work on Race Day; seeing a master at work from start to finish and even having the opportunity to purchase the finished product during our auction.”

True to its billing as an ‘arty day at the races’, the Artsworx Race Day will showcase the diversity of arts at USQ and also offer guests an opportunity to engage in and support the arts. The day will help raise funds needed to go toward the cost of producing our annual season of events – in particular music, theatre and visual art events which directly involve Creative Arts students as part of their learning experiences at USQ.

Other arty offerings will include a combined fashion/costume parade by USQ Designer, Carolyn Taylor-Smith featuring stunning costumes from past productions together with the most stylish of fashions; and live entertainment by USQ musicians, Stewart Sloan and Lyllie Mills.

This year, Race Day organisers have sourced an exciting selection of leisure, pamper and collectable items for the auctions including original jewellery by Brisbane-based artist, Marisa Molin; stylish fascinator by milliner, Rae Copeland; sporting memorabilia; original watercolour by Grafton artist, Lyn Butchart; and a hatinator by Elaine Mergard who famously designed and made hats for Her Excellency Quentin Bryce when she was Governor of Queensland.

True to race day tradition, fashions on the field will be judged and prizes awarded to best-dressed lady, best dressed man, best hat and best shoes.

The ‘Tracking the Arts’ Race Day commences at 3.30 for 4pm on Saturday 10 March in the Grand Marquee at Clifford Park. Contact the USQ Artsworx Box Office on 07 4631 1111 to book in for a race day with a difference – tickets are $65 each or $600 for a table of ten.

Financial Planners in Toowoomba to Celebrate Milestones

The Financial Planning Association (FPA) Toowoomba Chapter is holding an event to mark two significant milestones reached this year. As well as noting the 20 year anniversary of the FPA representing financial planners on the Downs, the Toowoomba Chapter will also celebrate the progress made by financial planners and the FPA in raising the standards in financial planning as a profession.

To mark this significant time, the Toowoomba FPA Chapter will hold an event at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 13 March at the Toowoomba Sports Club where they will publicly pay tribute to the Chapter Chairs who led in the development of the Financial Planning Profession since inception.

Toowoomba FPA Chapter Chair John Gouldson said:
This is a great opportunity for residents, financial planners and fellow professionals in the Toowoomba Chapter to celebrate the relationships cemented over the past 20 years in this area. Following the constitutional changes the FPA adopted in 2011, members are esteemed as professionals with high education and ethical standards upholding the ‘client first’ principle. In Toowoomba, we continue to work with other professionals including accountants, lawyers, real estate agents, bankers and lenders to get the best possible outcome for our clients. With this in mind, we wanted to invite all residents and fellow professionals to this celebration.”

Topics of discussion will include the recent Future of Financial Advice (FoFA) reforms as well as addressing the day to day needs of local residents with tips on budgeting, savings and maximizing investment returns.
