Blue Roo Bringing ‘Capitano Pretends Again’ To Toowoomba & SW Queensland

‘Capitano Pretends Again’ arrives in Toowoomba and then Dalby, Roma and Charleville – Empowering people with a disability through theatre.

A production with a difference, Brisbane-based Blue Roo Theatre Company is touring the Darling Downs and South West Queensland showcasing ‘inclusive theatre’ which empowers people with a disability through arts and theatre.

Artistic Director Clark Crystal, with over 30 years professional experience in the production industry, is proud to open ticket sales for Blue Roo’s touring theatre performance ‘Capitano Pretends Again’ starting on 7th March  in Toowoomba and finishing up on 23rd March in Charleville. Blue Roo’s philosophy is to create a theatre production that is inclusive of all our actor’s abilities – working with professional production values and utilising Brisbane’s best in the music, choreography and production industry,” Clark Crystal said.
Capitano Pretends Again Poster_Feb 2013-1In the tradition of ‘Commedia dell’Arte’, Blue Roo brings a touring theatre production steeped in this classical Italian comic style. Performed in the original style of mask, live music and complete with mayhem, the Blue Roo ensemble will bring a touch of chaos to the Darling Downs and South West Queensland as characters Arlecchino, Zanni, Brighella, and Columbina attempt to foil Capitano’s insatiable fibbing.

While on tour, Blue Roo is also delivering carefully planned drama workshops to empower people with a disability through arts and theatre. We use drama, movement, music and theatre to build confidence, communication skills and encourage social inclusion,” Clark said. Blue Roo will be offering 3 days of drama workshops from Monday 11th-Wednesday 13th of March in Toowoomba.

Blue Roo will also offer a drama workshop before the public performances in Dalby and Roma at 9.30am, and at 11am in Charleville. Ticket prices are $15.00 for performance and workshop $10.00 for performance only $5.00 for workshop only.

Tickets for Toowoomba can be purchased from the Empire Theatre box office on 4698 9900 and at the door. To purchase tickets for Dalby, Roma and Charleville please call 0439 007 676 or tickets can be purchased at the door.

A Community Service Message From AMAQ

Were you in a flood zone and feeling anxious, despondent or overwhelmed?

Are you worried about someone who is?

There’s a simple checklist for the signs that someone’s not coping such as poor sleep, drinking too much or withdrawing from social life.

In the immediate aftermath of a flood it is common for people to show signs of mental and emotional distress and, if the signs continue for five days, it could be a sign they need extra help.

The seven signs to look out for:

– Complaints of continued poor sleep
– Seeming easily overwhelmed
– Use of drugs or alcohol
– Withdrawing from family and friends
– Problems performing at work
– Startling easy or declining social invitations
– Increased or unreasonable irritability

Rosalie Gallery Hosting Emerging Artist Exhibition – A Single Step

Rosalie Gallery Mocatta Street, Goombungee is currently hosting an exhibition entitled A Single Step” by emerging artists Lyn Johnston, Sandra Willis & Lester Zirbel. A single step marks the beginning of every journey.” This exhibition is the first step in what the artists hope will be a long artistic adventure of joy and discovery.

The exhibition is a collaboration of realistic work in a diverse range of genres, using charcoal, graphite and soft pastel, whilst beautiful timber begs to be touched.

Lyn commenced drawing in 2011. Since then she has not looked much past graphite and charcoal due to their simplicity and their method of application in order to create different textures. . If I can get close to capturing the likeness of my subject, then I am satisfied,” said Lyn. I am trying to draw what I can see, a highlight here and shadows there.”

Lester first started making things from wood in 1975.  In those days it was from necessity, rather than a desire to create something beautiful. I had some split Silky Oak slabs from the walls of a pioneer house built circa 1900 from which I made various useful items for our home,” Lester said. Now in retirement he converts the raw materials into something beautiful as well as useful – Boxes. Matching the varieties of timbers together to get that Wow” feeling when you see the finished article is a challenge that I feel I will always be searching for,” said Lester. However it sure feels good when it is achieved .”

Sandra Willis
commenced painting in 2010. Whilst looking for art resources for her children, she discovered the online community Thinkdraw” which changed her life. As she discovered the joy of drawing, she found she was seeing everything through new eyes. She has painted portraits of children, adults, pets and wildlife, working in pastels, charcoal and graphite. “I continue to be deeply moved by the emotional responses with which my portraits are received,” said Sandra. It is a joy to capture the essence of my subjects personalities, and to know that the resulting paintings will be treasured.”

Mrs Edna Russell officially opened the exhibition on Friday 22nd February at 7.30 p.m. The exhibition will continue until 24th March. Phone the gallery on 4696 500 for further information.
