An Invitation To Celebrate Toowoomba Hospice’s Service To The Community…

The Toowoomba Hospice will hold an Ecumenical service this Sunday, July 28th.
Hospice Chairman Graham Barron OAM says the Community is invited to help celebrate the success of the Toowoomba Hospices’ mission in “providing quality care in partnership with the community for those with a terminal illness.”

The Ecumenical service will be held at the Toowoomba Hospice, 57b O’Quinn Street at 10am on Sunday, to be finished by 11am.

Bishop Bill Morris will lead the service to be supported by other religious denominations said Mr. Barron. We are delighted to have Bishop Bill joining us as they (Bishop Bill and Sister Frances) both worked closely with each other (especially during her time at the Bishop’s Office).

“The Ecumenical service is also to acknowledge and celebrate Sr Frances’ vision and inspiration, acknowledgement of the Management Committee, Staff, Volunteers, Benefactors and the Community,  as without assistance from all the above the Hospice would not be here today” said Mr. Barron

The Toowoomba Hospice provides free professional palliative care based on mutual respect, trust and individual needs to those who come to the Hospice. The facility is situated in O’Quinn Street Harristown.  For more information please contact the Toowoomba Hospice on 46598500 between 9am and 4pm.

Beginning at 2pm on Saturday 20th July, at the Jimbour Station Amphitheatre, this now iconic outdoor performance will celebrate the bicentenary of Italian romantic composer, Guiseppe Verdi, with an excellent afternoon of classic opera and musical indulgence.

QMF Artistic Director James Morrison promises the free event would be bigger and better than ever before. This is set to be a stunning spectacle of sights and sounds which will amaze not only opera aficionados, but also opera first-timers.”

This year, QMF joins forces with Opera Queensland’s four soloists Leanne Kenneally, James Egglestone, Guy Booth and David Hibbard, the Opera Queensland Chorus, and the Camerata of St John’s to perform well known Verdi choruses and arias from much loved works such as Il trovatore, La traviata and Rigoletto.

Celebrated Australian conductor Guy Noble will lead the orchestra in what is set to be a performance of aural and visceral beauty.

Patrons are invited to bring their own blankets, chairs and picnics to the grounds and to enjoy the whole day at Jimbour, with local market stalls open from 10am. A variety of food and wine will be available for purchase during the festival, and picnic hampers are available to be pre-ordered from Etiquette 247 via the QMF website.

Camellia and Winter Market Festival To Be “A Blooming Good Show”

The 2013 Camellia and Winter Market Festival is shaping up to be a ‘Blooming’ success according to the organising committee.

Toowoomba Hospice Association Chairman Mr. Graham Barron OAM says “The Camellia and Winter Market Festival organising Committee have added a new touch to this years’ event by adding a Market to sell coffee and local produce. Joan (Falvey) and her committee should be so proud of themselves as they have given the Hospice over $90,000 in 9 years.”

The Toowoomba Hospice is very fortunate to have strong community support, and this is shown in many ways especially with the support shown to the Camellia and Winter Market Festival,” said Mr. Barron.

A delightful ‘Winter Garden’ is also on display, nestled just over the escarpment with views of the Lockyer Valley. This garden is 9 years old and has over 70 camellia trees including a large variety of mature trees and shrubs. Situated at 41 Stenner Street, Toowoomba the open Winter Garden (from 10am – 4pm with an entry fee of $5.00) will coincide with the Camellia and Winter Market Festival. “This is a great opportunity for home gardeners to learn more about camellias and to enjoy a great day out knowing the proceeds are going to the Toowoomba Hospice” said Mrs. Falvey.

Toowoomba Hospice is a not-for-profit, community facility, caring for people with a terminal illness and their families, at no cost. Each year the Hospice, located in O’Quinn Street, needs to raise valuable funds to keep the service running.

The Camellia and Winter Market Festival opens to the public on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of July at TAFE Horticulture Centre from 9am until 4pm each day . Entry is $5.00 per person and children are free. There is free parking and disabled parking, with the entrance off Campbell Street, Toowoomba

Crow’s Nest Tourism Operator Eyes The Prize At State Industry Awards

Cowboy Up Trail Riding will represent the Toowoomba region and compete for top honours at the 2013 Queensland Tourism Awards, proudly presented by Queensland Airports Limited.
The Emu Creek horse trail ride business has nominated for the Adventure Tourism category in Queensland’s largest and most prestigious annual tourism awards program which recognises the outstanding achievements of industry operators across the State.
Cowboy Up Trail RidesCowboy Up Trail RidesCowboy Up Trail Riding Owner/Operator Gillian Gould said nominating for the 2013 Queensland Tourism Awards was a prime opportunity to receive industry-wide recognition and profile their business within a highly-contestable tourist market. We entered the Queensland Tourism Awards to increase our public profile.”
“The Awards program has given us an opportunity to revise our business plan and reflect on our goals for the business,” Ms Gould said. We feel that an award-winning business has a greater appeal to customers when deciding where to spend their money.

If we were to win a Queensland Tourism Award, we believe ultimately it would improve our overall business and provide recognition for excellent customer service and good business management.  The tourism market has certainly had its share of challenges over the past few years. Entering the Queensland Tourism Awards is a wonderful way to recognise our business overcoming those harder times because now our business is going strong, offering great customer service and a wonderful country experience.

Our local Toowoomba region is working hard to be positioned as a recognised tourism destination. We like to think our business is part of that positive community progression.”
qtic_daniel_gschwind_001
QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said nominations for the 29th Queensland Tourism Awards had increased by 12 per cent in 2013 compared to the previous year which is a positive sign for the industry. The 2013 Awards will usher in a new category – Excellence in Food Tourism – which recognises the ever-expanding market of top quality businesses which feature Queensland produce as part of their tourism experience.”

The Queensland Tourism Awards recognise hard-working tourism businesses throughout our great state and this year we’re excited to see an increase in nominations which coincide with some exciting new program announcements,” Mr Gschwind said. This year will also see the introduction of Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for each category which will align Queensland with the Australian Tourism Awards.”

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners from 32 categories will be announced on Friday 22 November at the newly opened RNA Convention Centre. More than 800 guests including Award entrants are expected to attend the Gala Ceremony. Gold Award winners will gain automatic entry into the Australian Tourism Awards.
