New Firefighting Water Tanks For Crows Nest

Three new water tanks have been installed in the Crows Nest area as part of Toowoomba Regional Council’s push to build resilience and natural disaster preparedness in the region.

The tanks roll-out and installation are part of $63,000 in funding secured by Council under the Queensland Government’s four year strategy – Get Ready Queensland. The theme for the Get Ready Queensland is ‘Local solutions to local issues’.

New poly tanks have been installed at Cooyar on the Mt Binga and Rangeview roads, with a third tank on the Old New England Highway. Three additional concrete tanks will also be installed in Crows Nest and Millmerran Estates areas. Millmerran Airport has already had a water tank installed to assist with aerial water bombing operations.

All the tanks will be easily identifiable and will be badged with the Toowoomba Regional Council, Rural Fire Service Queensland and the Queensland Fire Emergency Services logos.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio said “These funds had to be targeted at activities that make a demonstrable difference to resilience within our communities. The tanks will supplement water supplies during any future bush firefighting operations by eliminating the time needed to return to town to ‘top up’ their trucks”.
