Local Musician Wins Prestigious Scholarship

Toowoomba pianist, Noralyn Jowett is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship. The talented young musician competed against an outstanding line-up of past and current University of Southern Queensland students for the coveted $20,000 ‘passport’ to further her music performance studies overseas.
USQ Dean of Arts, Professor Peter Goodall, said this year’s applicants were of an especially high standard, and this was reflected in exceptional performances by all three musicians at Saturday evening’s concert.”

Noralyn stunned the audience with her technical skill and her dramatic interpretation of complex works by Mendelssohn and Ravel.

Noralyn started piano lessons at the age of eleven and excelled in her music endeavours throughout her secondary and tertiary studies, completing her USQ Bachelor of Creative Arts (with distinction) in 2012.

She is a most worthy winner of this prestigious scholarship, having been awarded the Dean’s Prize for Music and a Faculty of Arts Medal earlier this year.

I’m confident she will continue to grow and excel as a musician during her study abroad on the scholarship.”

Established in 1998, the Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship gives outstanding USQ music graduates the opportunity to travel overseas to further develop their careers.

The Scholarship was made possible by the generous donation of funds by the late Joyce Lloyd (from her Campbell family inheritance). A keen patron of the Arts, Mrs Lloyd was passionate about providing opportunities for emerging young artists.

The scholarship is an invaluable stepping stone for our emerging artists into the music industry and, in several cases, onto the international stage.”
