Experience Chinese culture as Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) celebrates the 2018 Chinese (Lunar) New Year at the Civic Precinct on Sunday 25 February from 10am to 2pm.
This free event is a time for families to come together and wish for good luck in the coming year, all while enjoying and appreciating the grandeur of Chinese culture.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio says the celebrations stand testament to our region’s diversity. “This is the largest Chinese New Year celebration that Toowoomba Region has seen,†Mayor Antonio said. “It marks a proud moment for our community to come together as we celebrate our diversity, prosperity and acceptance.
“Our region is rapidly growing, and it’s great to see the inclusion and celebration of other cultures, he said. “We are also delighted to have an opportunity to highlight Council’s developing international partnership with the Yuecheng District, Shaoxing.â€Â
The celebrations brought a range of exciting entertainment for all ages, with a live Lion Dance performance by Brisbane dance group Red Dragon. Entertainment also included a Chinese orchestra, Chinese puppet show, Chinese calligraphers, Ma Jong classes, cooking and martial arts demonstrations and a school choir.
Parents were encouraged to bring the kids dressed in their best Oriental attire to the Civic Precinct, as the event hosted a best dressed Asian costume competition for school-aged children.
